Here at the Lincolnshire Institute of Technology, we’re on a mission to improve access to higher level technical education in STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) subjects.

Our courses focus on teaching students the skills that are in demand in the industries that drive Lincolnshire’s economy forward - helping to reduce the skills shortage and make the region a better place to learn, work and recruit.

We work with nine education partners across the county which all offer a range of courses in STEM subjects - read on to find out more about these subjects…
Manufacturing & Engineering

Lincolnshire has a strong manufacturing and engineering heritage, and is home to some world-class manufacturing companies. With strengths including power engineering, metrochemicals, steel manufacture and motorsport engineering, the industry employs approximately 39,000 workers in the region - and contributes over £1.9m to the Greater Lincolnshire economy.

By offering courses in these subjects, we are contributing to the long-term success of the manufacturing and engineering sectors, and creating fresh career opportunities across the county.

Some of the courses our education partners offer include:

Engineering Technologies
Food Technologist
Marine Engineering
Electrical Engineering
Manufacturing Manager

This is just a handful of the manufacturing and engineering courses we offer, so get in touch if you’d like to learn more.

Agriculture

Lincolnshire is home to over 4,500 farms and produces over 30% of England’s vegetables, so there’s no doubt that agriculture is a thriving sector in the county.

In recent years, farms and agribusinesses have seen a growing demand for highly skilled STEM workers. Technology now plays a major role and the demands of feeding a growing population have driven the industry towards more efficient and sustainable practices.

With this shift in focus, we recognise that the next generation of farmers must have the technical skills needed to continue meeting food demands. Our education partners offer courses including:

Land-based Engineering
Precision Agriculture
Farm Business Management
Bioveterinary Science
Agriculture (General, Crop Production or Livestock Production)

To learn about these courses in more detail, or to find out about our other agriculture courses, get in touch.

Construction

The construction industry’s focus on sustainable practices and emerging technologies has propelled it to the forefront of technological growth. Those entering the industry in today’s job market are doing so alongside technologies like AI and robotics, fostering innovative methods such as prefabrication.

But in Lincolnshire, the sector is facing a skills shortage. Data from Lincolnshire County Council shows that there is low interest among young people in areas critical to Lincolnshire’s economy, including construction.

To tackle this skills shortage, we’re encouraging young people to consider a career in construction, and our education partners offer courses including:

Construction and the Built Environment
Civil Engineering
Quantity Surveying
Construction Management for England
Modern Methods of Construction

Get in touch to find out more about our construction courses and where you can study them.

Digital

Greater Lincolnshire’s digital sector has grown rapidly in recent years. The sector is currently worth £779m and research has found that nearly 2,000 digital businesses are based in the county, with over 16,000 Lincolnshire residents employed in a digital role.

It is an extremely diverse sector, cutting across all industries including digital marketing, telecommunications, healthcare, app development, software, gaming, education and aerospace technology - just to name a few.

In the modern world, almost every career requires some level of digital skills. So, to ensure the industry has a pipeline of talent with the desired skill sets, our education partners offer courses in:

Digital Marketing
Computing
Cyber Security
Games Design
Software Development

This is just a handful of the digital courses on offer, so get in touch to find out more.

Healthcare

Greater Lincolnshire’s health and care sector currently employs 58,000 people and is worth £2bn per annum to our economy. Due to the growing and ageing population, along with geographically dispersed towns and villages, there are growing opportunities for the sector.

In Lincolnshire, and across the country, the NHS is facing recruitment and retention issues due to a nationwide STEM skills shortage, which impacts all aspects of healthcare.

To tackle this healthcare skills shortage, our education partners offer courses including:

Counselling
Health and Social Care
Mental Health and Wellbeing
Social Work
Nursing

Get in touch to find out more about the healthcare courses on offer and how you can get involved.

If you’ve seen a STEM course you’re interested in, we’d love to help you take that first step in achieving your dream career. Take a look at our education partners’ websites to find out more and enquire about your chosen course.
