From health and care to engineering, manufacturing and art, science skills are highly valued across a wide range of sectors because science is all around us. It takes on many different forms and can be found across almost every area of the workforce, so when you commit yourself to a chosen field of scientific study or work, you really are opening the door to a lifetime of education and career prosperity.

There are as many as 58,000 people in the health and care sector in Greater Lincolnshire alone, many of whom will be in jobs that require knowledge of the sciences.

There are dozens of other sectors where science-led qualifications and education are crucial for employment, be it research & development, data science or biotechnology, and the Lincolnshire Institute of Technology can provide a springboard into those careers.
Education partners making science careers possible

Our education partners create clear career pathways for people who want to work in STEM careers through continued investment, development and innovation.

The University of Lincoln, for example, co-founded the Lincoln Science & Innovation Park in 2012, and also played a key role in developing and opening the Lincoln Medical School on campus in 2021. These initiatives aimed to address shortages within the NHS and wider health sector, both presently and in the future, as well as encouraging graduates to remain local for their junior doctor training - contributing to the local ecosystem here in Lincolnshire.

Lincoln College and Stamford College both offer a wide range of science education through GCSEs, A-Levels and Level 3 Access to Higher Education Diploma programmes for those looking to pursue a career in science - be it biology, chemistry or physics.

Grantham College & University Centre offers both Higher National Certificates (HNC) and Higher National Diplomas (HND) in Applied Science, depending on how long you would like your course to be. HNCs are a Level 4 qualification that take one year of study to complete, while HNDs are a Level 5 qualification that take two years. Both offer practical skills for work, as well as the opportunity to go on and complete a full bachelor’s degree, should you wish.

University Campus North Lincolnshire courses include a Foundation Degree in Science for both Medical Bioscience and Animal Welfare Bioscience, which is a Level 5, two-year qualification that combines academic study with practical experience in the workplace. The University also offers a Level 6 Bachelor of Science undergraduate course in Medical Bioscience.
