Meet the employer: Quickline Communications

At the Lincolnshire Institute of Technology (LIoT), we believe that collaboration is key and have strong employer relationships across a number of STEM industries.
We work with a huge network of employers - over 200 in total - to ensure we’re delivering training and education that meets local business needs. These employers are able to use the education and training facilities of our partners to upskill new and existing staff.
One such employer is Quickline Communications, which is one of our core employment partners and is also represented on the LIoT board.
We thought we’d tell you a bit more about Quickline Communications, so read on to find out more about the business and how we work together.
What is Quickline Communications?
Quickline Communications is a broadband provider delivering fast and reliable connectivity to hard-to-reach homes and businesses across Lincolnshire and Yorkshire. It specialises in connecting rural communities that have been left behind by other providers.
The business is on a mission to prevent good internet connection from being a ‘postcode lottery’ and ensure that everyone has access to decent broadband wherever they happen to live.
It has invested millions of pounds in building a new network and upgrading existing infrastructure to ensure its services reach areas where other providers don’t. Previously, people in these rural areas were missing out on many areas such as online skills, jobs, education and entertainment.
Earlier this year, Quickline was awarded four Project Gigabit contracts covering the whole of Yorkshire and the majority of Lincolnshire, which will see it provide 170,000 hard-to-reach premises with access to gigabit-capable broadband.
Project Gigabit is the UK government’s rollout of lightning-fast, reliable broadband across the UK. The programme targets homes and businesses that are not included in the commercial plans of broadband companies, reaching parts of the country that would otherwise miss out.
By doing this, it’s helping to unlock a better quality of life for everyone - from students and families in rural communities to businesses connecting with customers across the globe.

How do we work with Quickline Communications?
We work with our employment partners in a variety of different ways to prepare individuals for work, support their development within employment and ensure they are entering the world of work with the STEM skills needed by employers in Lincolnshire.
One way that Quickline Communications is supporting the LIoT is through the provision of a bursary which will be used to support over 500 of our students. We’re on a mission to ensure that everyone has access to the education they need to thrive and the bursary will be used to support students from underrepresented groups - including mature students, parents, people from low income families, people with a disability and people who were previously in care.
Students enrolled on Level 4 and 5 courses will be eligible for the funds and they will be able to use them for things such as study costs, travel costs and additional childcare costs.
By supporting us in this way, Quickline Communications is helping us to remove the barriers underrepresented groups face when enrolling for, attending and achieving higher-level technical qualifications and moving into employment.
