Engineering remains one of the most profitable and sought-after career paths, spanning across industries from manufacturing and agriculture to energy, IT, healthcare and transport. Across the UK, it keeps businesses moving and drives progress by solving problems that redefine how industries operate.
With Lincolnshire’s strong manufacturing and engineering heritage, the region offers opportunities for engineers to build practical, innovative careers. The industry employs 66,000 workers in the county and contributes £5.6bn to the local economy.
At the Lincolnshire Institute of Technology, we provide industry-specific training and teaching to kickstart an engineering pathway for aspiring students - read on to find out what engineering courses are on offer.
Education partners making careers in engineering possible
Our education partners support career pathways in engineering through tailored programmes that build real-world, technical skills.
The University of Lincoln has its own National Centre for Food Manufacturing (NCFM) and provides apprenticeships that are recognised nationally for their quality. The NCFM’s investment in a £10m campus includes an Innovation Centre and Digital Food Manufacturing Technologies Centre, with courses including Food Technologist Apprenticeship and Foundation Degree (FdSc) in Food Science and Technology.
Lincoln College offers Level 3, 4, 5 and 6 courses across Electrical Engineering and other related pathways, focusing on employer-based training and expertise. Similarly, Boston College provides engineering courses from Level 3 to Level 5, including Foundation Diploma in Engineering, Engineering Manufacturing Technician Apprenticeship and HND Engineering.
University Centre Grimsby specialises in technical higher education with courses from HNC Mechanical Engineering to HNC Marine Engineering, and links to major Lincolnshire employers like Siemens.
Joshua Watson progressed from Level 3 Engineering at Grimsby Institute to HNC Electrical and Electronic Engineering at University Centre Grimsby. He said: “The first year of my Level 3 was tough as I had to adjust to the college environment. However, with the excellent support and guidance from my tutors, I was able to choose the right path and be one of the most successful second year Level 3 learners in my year.”
University Campus North Lincolnshire offers a range of higher education courses in manufacturing and engineering, and Grantham College provides a range of engineering courses.
At Lincoln UTC, students can access specialist engineering education with cutting-edge technology such as CNC machining, plasma and laser cutting, and multi-material additive manufacturing. The college has also introduced robotics and simulators to help students discover automation.
Working with education partners and employers in Greater Lincolnshire, we help students to enter the workforce with greater confidence and build local employability - branching across sectors from construction and civil engineering to aeronautical engineering.
