It’s that time of year again, as we celebrate our brilliant apprentices up and down the country, the fantastic employers helping to give young people work experience, and our wonderful educators who provide the pathways for career-focused higher education. It’s National Apprenticeship Week 2026!

Supported by key employers across the UK including Aldi, Tesco, Royal Mail and National Rail, National Apprenticeship Week celebrates and promotes the crucial role apprenticeships play in the British workforce, both for employers and individuals.

The theme for this year’s week-long celebration is Skills for Life, recognising the careers that can be carved by apprenticeships and the springboard they can provide people to move from education into employment.
A varied and diverse education path

There are over 700 different types of apprenticeship you can choose from across the UK, and, in the 2024/25 academic year, there were over 350,000 apprenticeship starts in England alone - demonstrating their importance in providing experience across a wide range of skilled industries.

At the Lincolnshire Institute of Technology, we are proud to provide apprenticeships from level 3 to level 6 alongside our education and employment partners. This creates real and tangible career opportunities and pathways for the aspiring workforce of tomorrow.

With just 20% of an apprenticeship programme being based in the classroom, the remaining time is spent earning a salary while gaining hands-on, practical experience in a real working environment, giving students the chance to earn while they learn.

Is an apprenticeship for you?

Apprenticeships are available for people aged 16 or over, typically taking between one and two years to complete, and we offer a broad range of STEM subjects for you to consider, from welding and food technology, to engineering and IT solutions.

Noah Cook, a previous Lincolnshire Institute of Technology student, took on an apprenticeship with Anglian Water through Grantham College, and enjoyed the “good balance between college learning and on-site training” that came with his apprenticeship.

He said: “I’ve always wanted to do an apprenticeship. I wanted the on-site training and Anglian Water seemed to do a good balance of that with a lot of college work to start with, and then once you have a good knowledge base, you can go out on site more.

“It’s cool to learn and it helps you realise how a lot of things work, things you wouldn’t normally think about, and it helps you understand a bit more behind some of the things you work on.”

If you’re interested in studying an apprenticeship, we’re here to help you kickstart your education journey. Take a look at our education partners’ websites to discover the different apprenticeships on offer and enquire about your chosen course:
